Central Garage

The Highway Department’s Central Garage maintains all of the Town’s automotive fleet and motorized equipment in its 4-bay, 4-hydraulic lift facility at the highway yard.

Vehicles

The fleet includes:
  • 10 and 6-wheel dump trucks
  • Buses for Recreation and Community Services
  • Emergency vehicles from the fire and police departments and ambulances
  • Heavy construction equipment such as pay-loaders and backhoes
  • Hybrid electric truck
  • Pick-up trucks
  • Salt spreaders including the controllers and hydraulics that operate the spreading mechanisms
  • Turf equipment
  • Utility trucks such as sewer vacuum trucks and aerial lift trucks
In addition, all of the Sanitation Commission’s refuse collection trucks are maintained by the Town’s Highway Department.

Veggie Oil Truck

In 2008, The Highway Department first put into operation the first sanitation truck to run on used vegetable oil. The “Veggie Oil Truck” still runs today saving the Town thousands of dollars in diesel costs and helping to reduce carbon emissions.
